Finding Newcastle student accommodation that's right for you can be a little stressful, especially when it feels like you are in competition with everyone else at university and every student is out to bag the best properties.  To get ahead of the game and avoid a last minute panic it's a good idea to get organised. We've put together a simple guide of how to prepare and make sure you search for properties as effectively as possible - your dream student home for 2016/17 will be yours in no time!

Budget

Work out your finances now so you know immediately what kind of student properties to look at. Taking the time to plan a budget and know how much you can afford to pay on rent and bills will make the whole process far smoother, and will stop you wasting any time looking at properties that aren't suitable.  On average students tend to pay circa £10 to £12 per person per week for bills so that can be used as a guide for working out your finances.

Location

Make a decision on where you'd like to live. Whether you're at Newcastle or Northumbria university there are several places in the area where you might like to live - it all comes down to what's important to you. Do you want to be able to walk to uni easily? Or are you more interested in what transport links you are close to?  If you're struggling to make up your mind on your preferred area then take a look at our recent blog post where we profile the most popular areas for students to live in Newcastle.

House Mates

Before you start searching for student accommodation it's really important to get your group size sorted. To do that you need to think carefully about the people you wish to live with and how the group dynamics will work.  Putting time into forming your student house share group will reap rewards next year when you're part of a happy home!  If you're not quite sure how to start then take a look at our how to choose the right university flatmates blog for some guidance on what to consider when choosing your new housemates. Once you have your group sorted then you will be abe to know exactly what size of student property you require and that will make your searching much easier.

Research

As soon as you know your budget, ideal location and the number of rooms you are ready to get started searching!  Our student property section allows you to search on size and area so you can quickly narrow down your hitlist of properties.

View Properties

Make a list of all of the properties that catch your eye and arrange viewings for as many as you like.  It's a good idea to see a few so you can be sure you find somewhere that truly feels like home.  To make viewings as easy as possible for you, we are open for longer hours during our busy lettings season (that's now!) - so they can be arranged mid week until 7pm and at the weekend.  We also have a number of vehicles (including a 9 seater VW to fit your whole squad in!) so we can transport you to and from the viewings - no getting lost trying to find a property!

Relax

And then once you have your property for next year secured you can sit back, relax and try not to look too smug as you watch others around you having a last minute panic trying to find their accommodation!
