When you go to university in the party capital of the country it's understandable that you may be cutting your Christmas holiday at home short this year and returning to Newcastle early to raise a glass to the New Year (Geordie style!). With plenty of events and parties to choose from you won't be short of ideas. To help with your planning we've put together a guide on how to celebrate New Year in Newcastle on a student budget.
If you're keen to start the celebrations early then the New Year's Eve Winter Carnival kicks off from 5:00pm at Monument with the parade starting at 5:15pm. This year's theme is "Wild Beasts and Dark Streets" and you can expect to see plenty of drummers, fire performers, dance troupes and fireworks as the procession makes its way down Northumberland Street.
To be in the centre of the action, make sure you head to the Quayside where the Slug and Lettuce are hosting a free entry party with plenty of cheap drinks and entertainment to keep you entertained until the clock strikes midnight. The Wetherspoon's pub, The Quayside is another popular destination for purse friendly drinks and the Pitcher and Piano are also offering free entry on the night.
As midnight approaches head outside to the Quayside to enjoy the firework display across the Tyne. For the best views, face Gateshead and bag yourself a spot between Milk Market and the Swing Bridge.
If you prefer to spend your New Years Eve dancing the night away there are plenty of club nights where you can see in 2016.
Tiger Tiger is hosting "Get Twisted", a twisted circus extravaganza promising amusements, carnival and sideshow with tickets from £7.50 and great deals on drinks.
Digital will be hosting their New Years Eve celebrations with Luminaire. Put on your best dancing shoes and join the 2,000 strong party surrounded by moving images, lasers and lights. Midnight strikes with confetti cannons and pyrotechnics ensuring one of the loudest parties in the Toon. Tickets are £15.00 and sell out very fast.
Ernest will be throwing their traditional "All Nighter" New Years Eve party from 6:00pm - 6:00am with free entry before 11:00pm. Enjoy 12 nonstop hours of music, food, dancing and drinks with plenty of fun and banter.
There's no place like Tup Tup who are inviting you to follow the yellow brick road this New Years Eve with a trip to Oz. The event sells out every year so a good night is guaranteed with £15.00 early bird tickets now on sale.
A Tale of Three Cities will be happening on Newcastle's diamond strip where you can celebrate across three differently themed venues - House of Smith, Madame Koo and Floritas. A ticket gets you access to all three parties and will take you on a journey to Tokyo, Rio and New York with a few special surprises along the way. There's music for every taste so you can begin your night with some house and R&B before rapidly descending to guilty pleasure cheese by the end of the night. Tickets start from £10.00 and are selling fast.
Hopefully we've given you some ideas on fun ways to celebrate in the party city of Newcastle - we hope you have a great night celebrating and we wish you all a very happy New Year!
