Newcastle Student Life - Roseworth’s guide to eating out in Newcastle on a budget

Newcastle student life is great but it can take its toll on your bank balance. On those days you can’t be bothered to cook it’s tempting to eat out which isn’t always affordable on a student budget. This is Roseworth’s guide to great restaurants, pubs and takeaways – and they don’t cost a bomb!

Francesca’s Pizzeria, Manor House Road in Jesmond

This quirky Italian restaurant is hugely popular amongst students due to its friendly atmosphere and very reasonable prices. Happy Hour is between 5pm and 6pm Monday to Friday where you can get a pizza for as little as £4.10.

Lau’s 202 Buffet House, Newgate Street in the City Centre

Are you up for the ultimate buffet challenge? If it’s quantity you’re looking for then Lau’s 202 Buffet House could be of interest. The all-you-can-eat diner has food from across the globe, and has proved hugely popular since it opened in the city centre. Before 5pm Monday to Saturday you can eat for under £10 which is a very fair price.

Five Swans, St Mary’s Place in the City Centre

Remember this student mantra: you can never go wrong with a ‘Spoons.  The Five Swans is located between Newcastle University and Northumbria University so wherever you are on campus it isn’t far away. Eat out for breakfast, lunch or dinner. There are deals on every day so it’s student budget friendly.

Domino’s Pizza

If you’ve had a very long day at university, or can’t face the world for hangover-related reasons then Domino’s Pizza is the one. Their pizza isn’t always cheap but if you use the code ‘BLUELINE’ on any order over £20 you get a 50% discount! So perhaps it’s worth pooling your money together and opting for a classic student night of Netflix and chill.
