Moving into your new student flat may seem like a daunting experience.  We are here to help and have created a helpful checklist of things that you will need to bring and what you will need to do when you move into your new student flat.


What you need to bring


Important documents


  • Passport
  • Driving licence
  • Bank account details
  • Bank debit card
  • Chequebook
  • Insurance documents
  • Student loan documents
  • National insurance number, NHS number


Electrical essentials


  • Laptop or computer
  • Headphones – no one likes a noisy roommate!
  • TV (check to see if your property provides one first!)
  • USB TV stick – to stream apps such as Netflix.
  • Telephone charger
  • USB memory stick
  • Printer, camera etc
  • Hairdryer / hair straighteners etc


Academic resources


  • Paper
  • Pens / pencils / ruler
  • Ring binders
  • Notepads
  • Calculator


Kitchen essentials


If you are sharing accommodation with others, it may be worth while checking what you each need to bring.  We are sure you will agree that you will not need 6 toasters!

  • Wash bag to include toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo and shower gel

What you need to do


Moving into the property


  • Check the date that you can move into the property and arrange to collect keys from Roseworth’s main office – 26 St Mary’s Place, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE1 7PQ
  • Check the inventory of the property and return to Roseworth within 7 days
  • Take a note of your meter readings and contact the relevant utility provider and register your details
  • Locate where you gas, electricity and water meter is located
  • If you have a TV then you must pay for a TV Licence
  • Check which day your external bin is emptied
  • Familiarise yourself with the appliances within the property.  We have provided appliance manuals to help.
  • Set up telephone / internet
  • Ensure that you have set up personal insurance to include your belongings whilst at University
  • Change address - ensure that all correspondence is changed and mail is being received at your new address
