Being a Student in Newcastle

Being a student is an extremely fun time, getting to meet new people, moving away, living by yourself and discovering who you are.

Where you choose to study will have a huge impact on this, and Newcastle is an excellent place to study. You only have to look at the student numbers to see this.

The student lifestyle

Regularly described as one of the top ten party cities of the world, Newcastle is consistently voted one of the best student cities in the UK, as well as being the cosmopolitan capital of the North East.

With two top-rated universities, more than 50,000 UK based and international students choose to study in Newcastle every year.

Renowned for its thriving nightlife, Newcastle boasts a vast array of restaurants, bistros, bars and clubs... What more do you want as a student?

What to do?

Ok, we know you can party, and why wouldn’t you when you’re a student? But, there is so much more to Newcastle than just its party reputation.

Just look around, and you’ll find plenty of other fun activities to do too. With everything from the countryside to the coast all within a 20-minute journey from your doorstep.

Our beautiful coastline, clean beaches, gorgeous countryside and world heritage sites, such as Hadrian’s Wall, Durham Cathedral and Alnwick Castle every one within reaching distance, ensure that there’s always something to see and do in Newcastle and the surrounding areas

As for activities, whether you’re a theatre, cinema or music lover, you’ll be well catered for with Newcastle’s Theatre Royal, Metro Radio Arena, the O2 Academy and the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art.

Shop, shop, and shop some more

Newcastle is home to some of the biggest shopping names on the high street too, with great shopping facilities in Intu Eldon Square and Intu Metrocentre - you’ll be spoilt for choice.

Last but not least, let’s not forget about our football club. Newcastle loves football after all.

Our united football club still remains in its original site in the heart of the city which has dominated our skyline for over a century. So make sure you pay it a visit at least once during your time as a Newcastle student.
