The Quayside is a great place to start. The Pitcher and Piano on the river has a free drink offer every month if you sign up to their mailing list and just around the corner you’ll find the Bridge Tavern that create bespoke ales from its own micro brewery.

A short stroll from the Quayside is the popular area of Ouseburn. The Cluny hosts live gigs from up and coming local bands as well as well known rock and folk groups with tickets from as little as £6.00. For a pub full of character head to the Tyne Bar where you’ll find a large beer garden under a road bridge and a great atmosphere.

There are plenty of cheap pubs in the city. The Hancock is conveniently located between both unis and has great drink deals for students as well as an affordable food menu. Popular cheap chain Wetherspoons has a few pubs in Newcastle, the most popular in the city are The Union Rooms and The Five Swans which both have wallet friendly drink deals.

To line your stomach with loads of food before hitting the clubs head to China Town for authentic Chinese food at affordable prices, feast on an all you can eat buffet at ZaZa Bazaar in the Gate or enjoy mammoth burgers at student favourite Fat Hippo.

For a night out with a touch of glamour Collingwood Street is the place to be. Known to locals as the Diamond Strip, fans of popular show Geordie Shore may recognise a few of the bars on this famous road. FloritasMadame Koos and House of Smith are all bars with student club nights and 2 for 1 drink deals.

If you want to dance the night away in Newcastle without blowing your student loan, the best bargains in the Toon can be found on a Monday at Powerhouse  or Digital where entry for students is under £1 and there are plenty of drink offers. The O2 Academy is home to “Dirty Pop” every Friday where Freshers flock to enjoy the weekly fancy dress themes, £1 drinks and the very popular bouncy castle.
